With its shiny body and blades and its black fan cage, this portable fan is as retro-hot as it is room-cooling. The blades' striking bullet-nose hub is based on a 1934 Art Deco design, the 72-watt motor's cooling vents resemble an old-time microphone's, and the brushed-chrome base is sculpted into a beautiful form. Contemporary features include deep-pitch, quiet blades, three-speed control, oscillation control, tilt adjustment, and a built-in handle for moving from room to room. Made of die-cast metal, the fan is heavy and sturdy, stands 18 inches high, and has a 14-inch-diameter head. --Fred Brack

I had tried one of the new-style can openers -- the ones that do a good job making the lid of the can rounded so are you less likely to cut yourself. Provided, of course, that you can actually open the can with the darn things! Probably my incompetence, by I found using those new-style openers too much of a struggle. Sometimes I could do it and sometimes I couldn't. Life is too short to have to struggle to open a can. This opener is strictly the old-fashioned type. It resembles the type I have been using...

It takes three hands to open a can with a Swing-Away can opener. One hand to hold the grip, a second hand to turn the crank, and a third hand to hold the can. This is because the cutting wheel will walk over the rim of the can allowing the can to drop away from the can opener. This might be annoying if you are opening a can of something you can pour out of the can easily, but if you are opening something like chilled cranberry sauce or refried beans, which requires removing both ends of the can and allow...

While this used to be THE can opener to use for generations, it is now a piece of junk made in China. After one use and air drying, it had major rust stains all over it. Each time I wash it, I use a Scotch pad to scrub the rust off again, but this is only removing the rust that can be reached... the rust is forming on the inner side and also on the pivot point. Within a year, the pivot point rusts so badly that the can opener breaks into two pieces. I take good care of things and am gentle with them, but...

4.5 stars, actually.\nThis fan is great. It's really small, so it can be placed in a window frame or almost any where you need air to be moved from, and doesn't obstruct like a larger, yet less-powerful fan would.\nIt's really powerful. It really does shoot a tight beam of air, and in turn circulates air around an entire room. This is especially helpful, in say, small, un-air conditioned dorm rooms at colleges too cheap to install AC. This fan is also very good at moving cool air from one room to another...

My daughter commented on a recent visit that she has bought "every brand of can opener known to man", and couldn't find any that worked as well, if at all. Bought a second one just because the first unit was so effective. This product is high efficiency in a tight package. The variable speed control is key - some [other] models come with 3-speeds, but this is the one you want. The tilt head is great for positioning. After 5 years with my first one, the tilt mechanism is a bit loose but should be easy to tighten. The outer circle creates a natural safe handle. Pricing is somewhat hefty, but it's worth it. This fan approaches air-conditioning in its cooling capacity in my eyes, and I'm known as the one who's always turning the temperature towards "Arctic" on our thermostat! It's sound lulls me to sleep with memories of sleeping under an enormous GE oscillating floor fan made of steel back in the 1960's before air-conditioning was everywhere. I don't know what the problem is, but I am buying undented cans and then when I go to open them, the top is just a little oval and not totally round.\nAny lid that is not TOTALLY round, leaves two hinged places where the lid will not open. THIS REPLACMENT FILTER DID NOT MATCH THE ORIGINAL MANUFACTURERS BECAUSE THE BORDER WAS COMPRESSED PAPER COMPARED TO THE ORIGINAL WHICH WAS PLASTIC. BUT WORK IN DEVICE AND WAS SIZED PROPERLY. I PAID FOR THE HIGHER QUALITY FILTER BUT WAS MORE PAPER THAN PLASTIC. NOT A BIGGIE BUT SHOULD HAVE BEEN CHEAPER IN PRICE.

I've had this can opener for less than a year. I've never washed it in the dishwasher. The most it has ever gotten is a light rinse and maybe a little bit of dish soap. Starting to rust all over, and it has a hard time opening some cans now - has obviously become dulled. We are very light users of can openers - probably use it less than 5 times a month. Piece of junk! I hope to find a decent, long-lasting can opener - this one isn't it.

Can't find the "SwingAway" in stores anymore. After 10 years, mine finally broke, then I went through FIVE different can openers in the past two years...after a few months they broke or just "spun" without going around the opening. Kept trying what sounded like name brands. Finally gave up and looked on-line. Found it at Amazon. THANKS!

The same people who used to make the swing a way's (in USA) are making a can opener called Ez-Duz-It that is exactly like the swing a ways but they are made in USA and the better quality that we were accustomed to with the old swing a ways. They are being sold at Fantes.com currently for 6.99. I received mine and indeed it is exactly like my old swing a way except it doesn't have the bottle opener on the side, I can live with that.

I started to purchase this replacement filter for my model 4152 air purifier but luckily decided to see what the whole machine is going for -and it was on sale for $49.99 (this was for sale at $47.99).\nSo I bought 3 spare machines - and even if they're not running, I'll have no regret, because they contain the replacement filters. And I got free shipping as a Prime member.\nNext time out I'll look for washable filters because these things are expensive.

Easy fit into the air cleaner and lasted over the recommended 12 month replacement time. My place gets dusty with a minute's activity. The Air Cleaner and its filters does the job.

I was disappointed to find out I couldn't get a new swing-a-way made in USA now that mine is rusting. I did a little research online and found that the company that originally made them (in the USA) is now making them under the name EZ-DUZ-IT and they have two models, the heavier duty one like the one above is model 89. They are not in stores yet but can be purchased online, Fantes.com and Dvorsons.com have them.

I agree with another reviewer in that the fan is very nicely designed [something I place a lot of importance in] however, practically everything about this fan is aggravating. From having to disassemble it to clean the blades to the fact that on the low speed it rattles to the fact that the side knob to hold angle doesn't actually hold. This product *looks* like it's rock solid but it's a flimsy item.

I was wondering if I should even review.\nI mean does a can opener really need a review?\nYepper.\nIt's hard to find what is good when there are so many choices.\nI found this one because there was a can opener at work that I found out was many MANY years old and still worked like a champ. I had bought 4 or 5 in the last few years and was getting mad. It seemed like it should be easier to find a good one.\nI don't want anything special just that it WORKS and stays working.\nSo here is the review:\nEasy t...

This is an incredible expensive filter product and it appears they are in limited supply because I don't think the actual Hamilton Beach Air cleaner is in production anymore. So while I love the filter's capability, I only gave this 3 stars because of the high price.

After having this Swing-a-way a couple of years, it's getting to the point that it won't reliably open cans. It loses connection at the can rim and quits cutting the lid open. I have to repeatedly reattach it and grip as hard as I can to get a can open. It's only two years old, and apparently there's enough wear already. A shame. My prior mechanical can opener last for years.

I have had this opener for about 4 months now.\nIt works well out of the box.\nWe are pretty heavy users of canned food so we might open 3-4 cans a day on average.\nI have started to notice the clearances opening up on this opener.\nThere is a bit too much flex in its construction.\nIm sure it will get us through this year but im not sure how much longer it will last.\nI bought a high quality side opener the same time i bought this one and it is still like it came out of the box and it has opened the sam...

I have allergies to mold & dust. My home office is in our basement. This air cleaner keeps\nthe basement smelling clean and eliminates mold as far as I can tell. The filter lasts a\nlong time. It seems expensive when you buy it but in the long run it's worth it for comfort.

Although this is not an oscillating fan, it nonetheless manages to circulate the air quite well through the curved vanes in front of the fan blades. It is a variable-control fan meaning that there are not just two or three settings but dozens of them on a sliding dial. It is small and unobtrusive. However, if you really need bigtime fan power I would go with a much larger and more powerful fan like a PATTON High Velocity cheek rippler. Well, a PATTON High Velocity anyway. The cheek rippler part is just e...
